Things You Should Consider If You Have Sleep Apnea

Among other problems that affect the body are those that affect the brain and that includes sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can cause significant health issues and it can also be very dangerous to those who sleep in the same bed with the person who has the condition. Those who suffer from sleep apnea should seek treatment at the first signs of the condition, but sometimes the condition may go unnoticed.

Sleep apnea is when a person stops breathing for brief periods during sleep. These periods may last for only a few seconds or for a few minutes. Sleep apnea is known as a disorder of the respiratory system and is usually characterized by snoring, loud snoring, or prolonged pauses in breathing.

Apnea can begin as early as infancy or at any age. The condition may be due to a physical reason such as a faulty bronchus or a physical disease such as obstructive sleep apnea, which is more common in those with emphysema or cardiovascular problems. In the latter case, the condition is most often associated with obesity.

If the risk factors listed above are present in the individual, there is a very high risk of developing sleep apnea. Since sleep apnea is caused by an obstruction in the airway, this can be treated through a variety of techniques including surgery, exercise, therapy, and lifestyle changes. Some people may also have to take medications to manage the sleep apnea symptoms.
