Tips on Managing Acid Reflux Attacks

Acid reflux is a condition that is caused by insufficient production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. The hydrochloric acid tends to flow back up into the esophagus and cause heartburn. Some people experience frequent heartburn when they eat spicy foods, acidic drinks, or spicy foods after they have eaten an alkaline meal.

Heartburn does not have to be a constant problem if you know how to treat it properly. Here are some simple tips for dealing with heartburn.

The first thing you should do if you have acid reflux is to reduce your overall weight. You should also try to eat less salty and fatty foods. And you should also try to avoid getting up and down rapidly from one place to another.

Second, try to limit the amount of spicy foods you eat at meals and limit the amount of them you eat at other times of the day. The thing is that most of the spicy foods that you eat increase the levels of stomach acid and increase the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Third, many acid reflux sufferers find that relaxing in a room that is cool and dark helps soothe their heartburn. If you can’t relax in this way, try moving around a little more during the day.

Fourth, try to eat smaller meals at night. If you have a hard time digesting food at night, try eating smaller meals at night instead of bigger ones.

Fifth, try to eat several smaller meals each day. This will help to eliminate your tendency to overeat at meals and will help you to be able to digest your food better. You should try to eat five to six small meals each day rather than three large meals.

Sixth, try to change what you eat so you won’t be likely to have acid reflux in the future. Try to keep your daily intake of sodium (salt) and saturated fat to a minimum.

Seventh, try to drink more water. Water is well known to be very good for cleansing the body of bacteria and is essential for digestion and purification.

Eighth, try to sleep on your side to relieve pressure on the chest. Your lower half should be resting on your upper half while you sleep in order to prevent pressure on the stomach.

Lastly, don’t over-breathe. This is one of the most common mistakes people make with regard to reflux prevention.
